Making a difference for human beings long before spoken and written language, music continues to be at the front lines of the battle for digital freedom and the real new economy. We are listening for voices, rhythms, and actions that value musicians for the leaders they are in our communities and our economy.
Check an interview with yours truly over on the Creative Commons blog. Feels cool to be recognized by the folks over at CC. Thanks Cameron!
Colin Mutchler is one of the original CC success stories. Back in 2003, he posted his song, My Life, to Opsound under a CC BY-SA license. A month later a violinist name Nora Beth added a violin track, calling the new work My Life Changed. It was one of the first instances of CC facilitating unsolicited collaboration, laying the ground work for the amazing remix culture we have seen develop over the past 5 years. Mutchler has since expanded his resume, working on photography and media production as well as his music. We caught up with him recently to find more about what he has been up to since we last checked in - needless to say, it has been a while.

Internet Dream is a song and video about my love and dreams for the internet. The words were written while I was teaching at Public School 7 (K-6th grade) in East Harlem. The images were gathered from some of my own photographs, as well as some public domain photos and screen shots of websites.

I like this. They say we're dreamers, but we're not the only ones.

Finally had my first live acoustic show in several years, also first in London, on Thursday night. My friend and coworker Tomas filmed most of the show on his Nokia N95 8GB. His note is below. It's actually pretty good quality considering it was on his phone. Check out the full youtube playlist of the show, or check the videos below.
From Tomas:
My phone’s camera decided to go on standby just as Colin started the Improv. I missed exactly the part where he sings about the office and work … so at least I’ll share Colin’s Facebook status from Wednesday evening:I want to leave the office.
I am not leaving the office.
My head feels like a computer.
This is why mobile is the way forward.
1.) Caste on a Hill
2.) Moist Lies
3.) God and America (tentative title, may change)
4.) Improv (part 2)

On my Premixed album last year, I had included a remix version of my song "More than 2 Sides" by fourstones that was pretty good, but I actually think that this new version, titled "Drastic Independence" (free mp3) by CCmixter artist radiotimes, is actually better.
Radiotimes' description: "This is another worthy wordy offering featuring the great vox and words of Colin Mutchler. Kept the arrangement to a minimum to emphasise the words just added some harmony and a bit of Duane Eddyish guitar to break it up a bit"
It reminds me about the value of sharing via the internet. If when you think a piece of culture or expression has run it's course, someone picks it up and makes something even better with it. Thanks radiotimes!
